Text 11 Jan 17 notes Navy DEP Meeting: 20120110

This was our first time PTing (physical training) at one d our DEP meetings. I’ve been in since July, and with this being our first PT, I was fucking nervous. I’ll admit, I’m not in the best shape. And I’m sure glad I have five more months before I leave.

When we got to the meeting, I found out I’m the new CO of the Evansville Navy Recruiting Office, which means I had to make sure everyone signs the muster sheet and fills out their recerts. Then we headed to a local park, and after about ten minutes of stretching, we started off on our 1.5 mile run. Every lap was half a mile long. The first lap, we all ran together in formation. Our recruiter set the pace, which was pretty fast for me. After the first lap, we dropped out of formation. Almost half of the DEPers dropped out after the first lap. I slowed down but kept going. My recruiter ran with me for part of that lap. I finished it and started my third, and towards the end he ran with me again. We sang a cadence he’d made up, and I sprinted around the last turn to the finish.

I felt accomplished at the end, even if I finished last out of everyone who completed the whole thing. And I’m glad I did. I might be sore as fuck today, but it was worth it to me.

Text 7 Jan 1 note Exercise Journal - 20120107

Today I went for the first run I’ve had in a while. And I know I needed it. And I need to do it more often. But this run, well, it kicked my fucking ass. I was only out for about 15 minutes, but I felt like I was going to die. It’s time to get my ass in shape, day by day, and today was day one. Every day, I’ll be working to get stronger and more prepared. I have 6 more months to get in the best physical shape possible. Watch out; I’m on a mission now.

Text 30 Dec 2 notes New Years.

I wanted to spend this New Year’s Eve/New Years with Kelso and Carolanne. I knew it would be a fight with my parents. When I asked, they told me I can go, but I have to be home by midnight. That ruins the whole idea. I want to be with my friends to bring in the New Year. Not in my room while my parents are asleep. They justify it by saying I’m only 17. And that it’s on the West Side of Evansville. And that the drunks won’t be out until after midnight. Let’s address these one-by-one, shall we?

1. I’m only 17. That’s still old enough to enlist in the Navy, to sign up to put my life on the line to serve and protect my country; but I’m still not old enough to be responsible and careful? Really?

2. It’s on the West Side of Evansville. Great geography! I’m proud that you can recognize that! That’s kind of why I wanted to just come home the next morning, because yea, there is a greater chance of there being drunk drivers.

3. All the drunks won’t come out until after midnight. I’m calling BULLSHIT.

I hope that everyone enjoys their New Year and is safe. Apparently, I’ll be bringing in 2012 by myself. In my room. Such a great life.

Text 25 Dec 3 notes Christmas.

For me, this year, Christmas hasn’t been about the gifts. Sure, they’re nice and I appreciate them. Some more than others. But, this year has been about spending time with my amazing family and friends. Next year, there’s a very good chance that I won’t be able to come home for the holidays, and it makes you realize how lucky you are to have everything you do have. I love my friends and family to death, and spending time with them is the best gift I could ever ask for.

Text 16 Dec 8 notes Sailor’s Creed

I am a United States Sailor.
I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America and I will obey the orders of those appointed over me.
I represent the fighting spirit of the Navy and those who have gone before me to defend freedom and democracy around the world.
I proudly serve my country’s Navy combat team with Honor, Courage, and Commitment.
I am committed to excellence and the fair treatment of all.

Text 13 Dec 2 notes Moving On.

All of our lives, we’re taught to be thankful for what we have. And, to tell you the truth, I’m not sure how well I do at that. I’m thankful for everything I’ve been given and all that I’ve earned in life, but yet I want something more. I’m not content with this. I’m not happy with where I am. I want nothing more than to move on with my life and start my career. That’s why I can’t stand having to wait seven more months before I’m able to leave for the Navy.

Text 11 Dec 3 notes Reaction.

My first reaction, of course, was to get mad. Actually, pissed is much more accurate. But, today, I’m laughing about it. Because while you think you’re all big and badass, you’re gonna be stuck in your parents basement playing video games for the rest of your life while I’m off doing something good with mine. So go ahead, have your fun, because in the end it’ll get you nowhere. I’m not about to stoop to your level, because I am too good for that shit. Have a nice life, fucker.

Text 7 Dec 4 notes Temptations.

This world seems to be centered around one thing. All major religions touch on the subject. Parents raise their kids to overcome it. But, as we become adults, it’s our own choice to overcome the temptations of life.

Whether it is pornography, sex, crimes, cheating, lying, or even something as simple as eating heathy, we face challenges every day. For me, my greatest temptation is food. Fattening food. And daily, I have to have the willpower to eat as well as I can.

We all have different temptations and ways to overcome them. It doesn’t matter how we do it. Just as long as we continually strive to overcome our temptations in life.
